Sylvain Luc: France & Eric Longsworth: USA

Sylvain Luc who was at the Cabaret du St-Cyrille in August 2000 for the Guitares Godin tour is back in Sorel for a night of Jazz, Gypsy, and Basque folklore. At that time he was the ambassador of the famous Canadian guitar-maker Robert Godin and his line of guitars. He will be accompanied by American cellist Eric Longsworth who lived in Montreal for 15 years before moving to France.

Sylvain LUC et Eric Longsworth: when strings intertwine!

On one side we have an artist with a sense of swing, a mastery of tempo and sound along with an ear out of the ordinary. Although extraordinary, Sylvain Luc has a talent for highlighting the melody before showboating any instrumental virtuosity. Improviser by instinct and drawing from opposites, the uncommon pieces of this artist, always on the edge, forever ring out as an invitation to travel.

On the other side we find Eric Longsworth with a reputation of being hard to categorize, at the conflux of different styles, playing the cello as if, at times, it were a guitar or a bass or even an instument of percussion. Endowed with a sense of rhythm and a rare talent for creating an ambiance, this virtuoso of the violoncello, draws from his electric instrument as many captivating sounds as original harmonies.

Not only will the night be a musical experience of high caliber, but also a unique mix of cultures, unifying the subtle play and nuances of Eric Longsworth with the fine art sewned from the melodies of Sylvain Luc.

The pleasure and complicity between Sylvain Luc and Eric Longsworth is obvious. The duo loves to play freely. The wink of an eye describes how they enjoy playing together. A pampered public were able to confirm this August 2004, in Nantes, at their first musical meeting on stage at Jim Europe. They were more than one thousand to applaud the birth of this guitar / cello duo and not even the rain dampered the enthusiasm of this crowd happy to be there!
