No Name Jazz Sextet
The No Name Jazz Sextet is a young Montreal-based group led by saxophonist Alexandre Côté and drummer Ugo Di Vito. The style of the No Name Jazz Sextet is influenced by the Hard Bop movement of the sixties, in particular by the music of Art Blakey, Hank Mobley and Cannonball Adderley. They perform their own compositions on their first CD: original, energetic music that will keep your senses ever on the alert.
Here is a group of six musicians who, without a name, will raise the roof with their music.
Alexandre Côté, on Sax alto, Alexandre Côté received his Bachelor of Jazz Performance from McGill University with honors.
Roberto Murray, on tenor and soprano sax, possesses a vast amount of playing experience and has collaborated with an extensive line-up of artists and ensembles in the studio and on the stage.
Aron Doyle, on trumpet and flugel horn, also studied Jazz at McGill University upon arriving in Montreal in 1992.
Ugo Di Vito, on drums, is trained as a classical pianist, and studied jazz piano with Lorraine Desmarais. In 1990 he devoted himself to drums, studying alongside Philippe Keyser.
Frédéric Grenier, on acoustic bass, studied at UQAM with Vic Angélilo. Despite his young age, his intensity and professionalism have made him a respected musician among his peers.
Vincent Réhel, on Hammond organ, is also a pianist-composer-arranger. He also studied with Lorraine Desmarais and is in demand for studio work and on stage because of his innovative qualities both in Jazz and popular music.
This blossoming talent of musicians, most promising, mastering both the spirit and technical standards that hardbop demands are a must see. With this, their first album, No Name Jazz Sextet is assured a place amongst the big names in Jazz today.
