His poetry is like an arrow. On the one part a dart thrown at the injustices of the world and on the other a finger touching the heart, it paints the world of this singer songwriter in tune with his time. With Richard Pelland, words are not earth shattering nor small talk but the primary material for songs that resound like thunder.
Since 1994, Richard Pelland covers all the stages of his native Lanaudière and soon the entire province. Having established himself in several competitions, he conquers a loyal public, night after night, who see in him a chronicler of the times. In 1995 he beat out future star Daniel Boucher by winning the CEGEP Rock competition and the Prix Chanson for best song. The same year he is crowned with a people's choice award at a local finale of CEGEPs. His outright fashion for singing about life and events along with an extaordinary charisma have brought him attention and praise from everyone.
In 1997, a scholarship from the Young Volunteers program allowed him to explore new musical horizons and produce a demo called Appartement 15. A long lasting six year demo as the artist just recently cut several of the songs. Richard Pelland's path is filled with turning points as he keeps close ties with Richard Bélanger and Sylvain Clavette and is an opener for Paul Piché, Daniel Bélanger, Mon'Oncle Serge, Eric Lapointe, and his friend Daniel Boucher. Amongst others he penned Martin Deschamps hit called "Mon chien est mort". The public may not know of Richard Pelland but he is no stranger to the Quebec music scene.
In March 2003 he breaks out. After having crisscrossed Quebec, with Dany Bédar and Boom
Desjardins, on the BoomBox Tour, Richard Pelland puts out «Tout est normal». A first album intense and mature produced by Richard Bélanger. Working with the likes of Richard Lemoine and David Brunet the singer takes one step forward that will surely bring him to the forefront of the Quebec music scene.
It is with «Tout est normal» and without fireworks that Richard Pelland will attempt to charm the public at large. Without doubt it is the first chapter of a long story he holds at heart…
